SadlyThe seemingly new era of writers lack a love for the culture, it's history, and it's people. If you are part of the gentrified folks it will be fine... you will find safe 3 and 4 $ sign places to stay, food creations for foodies to afford, and a general guidebook. Having been a lonely planet book user for 20 years, what has changed are the vast number of single $ eating establishments, hotels, and things to do that the average Mexicans enjoy, the places that few people know about, and the words and attitudes that were used to describe them and the culture that tell the story of a travel writer that truly loves and respects the culture he or she is a guest in.
This is a very comprehensive guide. It has lots of information but lack pictures to go with what I am reading, to give an idea about it, so still had to go online to see the pictures. I will stick to dk eyewitness travel guide books, now they don’t disappoint when it comes to pictures. I give it 2 stars because it is boring without brightly colored pictures to get you excited
Good information, but I would like to see more. Since I got the book I have been able to find a lot more information on line which I would like to see included in book form. It's definitely a good starting point, and it gave me the desire to do further investigation.
Such a great book. My gf and I love lonely planet books when we head out of the country, especially to places where wifi and cell service aren't readily available.
I used it on a 10-day trip and it covered everything I needed. Flew into Mexico City and did buses as far as Guanajuato, Oaxaca, and Coatzacoalos.
Great book, lots of interesting information. Good format, feel, and look. It's quite think so keep that in mind if packing small.
Like most Lonely Planet guide books it has a tremendous amount of useful information.
A lot of guide books just tell you how beautiful a country is and how wonderful the people are and review only the high end hotels and restaurants. They pretty much leave you unprepared for the reality you find upon arriving in the country. Lonely Planet guidebooks tell you about all those wonderful things too but, they also warn you about the ugly side that all countries have and give advise on how to deal with it. They offer great reviews on a wide range of hotels and restaurants from the bare bones budget traveller to the well heeled one. This Mexico guidebook seems written in the same mold as ones we've used for past trips and, while we haven't gone on our Mexico trip yet, we have every confidence that this Lonely Planet Mexico travel guide will be as invaluable as all the other Lonely Planet guides we have used for our past travels.
